Wireless help!

My sister's just brought her laptop back from uni and i can't get it to connect to our BT home hub properly.
It says it's connected fine, but won't receive any packets. It just sits there doing feck all except sending a few packets every once in a while.
DNS, default gateway etc are all correct, IP isn't used by any other computer.
The same computer connects fine to the same home-hub via a wire.
I can't see why the jaming thing isn't working.
It's running XP btw.

Use the wire [;)]
My dads got a home hub, Only problem I had was my wireless card has software that conflicts with XPs own wireless networking, Had to dissable the XP one and use the Netgear software, If the wireless is built in to the laptop havnt got a clue, Its just wireless being a sh<s></s>it again.

We've got 3 other laptops that talk to the homehub fine. I can't see why this isn't playing.

Could be all the security you should have set up, Need to check all the settings between the router and laptop, Sometimes my laptop will sign out of MSN and the network icon will say 'limited conectivity', Havnt a clue why it does it, Wireless is just ghey.

Check the firewall. Then make sure it is in your trusted network, either in the proprietary software or windows software, then make sure the hub isn't set to mac filter etc and will actually want to play. After that i'm stumped.

i dont let windows configure my wireless, i use the actual chipset software. The microsoft software is a bit poor for wireless, it kept me connected for about a minute at a time, then dropped off. So i now use intel PROset wireless software.

Is it picking up an IP or giving itself a predefined Private IP like 169.254.222.13. If so - start>run>cmd> ipconfig /release > ipconfig /renew. That might sort it.0

How do you know it's sending?
Can it ping the router? Can it ping anything else on the network? Using domain names and IPs.
If you've got a DHCP server, try making the laptop a DHCP client?

Uni's are a bit rubbish as they have some stupid set up with thier IP settings (well thats the case at Durham). Make sure that under options that 'automatically detect proxy settings' is checked. I have to by pass the settings manually at Durham and then change it when I get home. Might help.
