several questions:

1) Can you use any calbe brake lever for any cable brake, be it v-brake or disc?
2) I need a new brake cable for my rear disc brake, any suggestions? I don't really have a budget, becuase I@ve never needed to buy one, so I don't really know what is best etc
However, I was looking at this - anyone use them or have any thoughts?

I see to have forgotten the third question, so i'll leave it at that for now
cheers

I think though i am willing to be proved wrong that you can use any cable with any disk or V brake. TW's bike has Avid cable disks and I have just upgraded it with Jacket cables, the rear is 100% better than it was before so worth the out lay IMO, front is better but not by so much say 505 or so.

I use XTR cables on my rear V brake (& shifters) cos I am an "old skool Shimano loving gimp", or so my friends tell me!

yeah, i would be surprised if you couldn't use any cable with any lever/brake, but can you use say, a v-brake lever with disc brakes?

also, i was looking at the XTR cables as well, and i would pay the extra money just for the grey cable jackets - my brakes are shimano discs of some description, so it should work pretty well

We were using normal XT V brake levers with the Avid Cable Disk, then changed to Avid Levers as recommended, this changed improved things, then with the jacket cables the brakes are tops. The only thing i notice over the Hope Mini i have on the front of my bike is that there seems to be stretch in the cable, inevitable i guess?

Flying snakes are without doubt the best cables unless you have fully sealed cable runs. Any lever with any brake as long as they have the same pull ratio or something like that, callipers run on a different cable pull i think, but wrt v-brakes and cable discs there is no trouble.

so i would be able to run something like this cheap vbrake lever with my discs?

that actually makes sense, seeings as my current lever/shifter combi thing is labelled as being vbrake lever - perhaps io'm not as intelligent as i look

but flying snakes...how much and where from?
i shall go have a look on google

Any lever will work but v brake levers with discs might feel rubbish, shimano LX levers worked really well with some avid discs I had and on my wife's cheap shimano mechanicals.

i used to use moterbike clutch cable as its thicker (inner & outer).this will not stretch giving better feel and a touch more power

to sum up. if the lever is designed to work with V brakes it is fin with any V brake or cable opperated disc brake.

If the lever is for a different type of brake eg. cantis or U brakes then it will not be suitable for V brakes or mech discs.
