i remember reading that if the collars are radiused and you are very careful, you might be ok but its just occurred to me that perhaps this is a case where liquid torque might be a good thing to use under the collars(so you dont have to do them up tight)kester0

Ill see if I can find out anymore on t'interweb about this - I prefer lock ons and was going to get a set of ODIs - but then again I heard it can cause stress fractures etc in the carbon bars if you over tighten them.. which does make sense I guess

Heard people saying that the bars start to crumple.

Youd just have to take the same care as you would clamping them into the stem and fiting brake levers and gear shifters.

im just having a rest

Just been having a search for this elsewhere - like you all suggest - with a little care and no over-tightening they should be fine - so guess I'm gonna buy those ODIs then - cheers!

Ive had ODI ruffian grips fitted on carbon bars for over six months. Had no problems atall.Eagles may fly high but Weasels dont get sucked into jet engines.

Just as long as you tighten them just enough to stop them moving, they should be fine.

Something round here tastes bad. Could be plain old bad taste.

Bar plugs are also quite a good idea.

They'd crush the bars after a while wouldn't they?
I don't think that torque thing would help. They'd always come loose after a bit...
I think bar plugs would probably stop the crushing effect like he said ^^^

ODI say they are fine (well they would wouldn't they) but so do most carbon bar manufacturers

they're fine if your not obsessed with tighting the bolts as much as is humanly possible
it's only a 2.5 or 3mm allan bolt so shouldn't have that much pressure anyway
