Heart Rate at rest

I got a HRM for the gym so I can train better (apparntly).
Just tried it out and my rate at rest is around 52bpm is that good or what?
My dad was saying his is around 47bpm to, and he's pretty fit swims everyday, rides everyday etc.
So whats a good rest heart rate?
I know recovery rate is important but I don't know mine yet as I've not been the gym with my HRM.

Nah it was some roadie from the 70s/80s before lance's time, thats when my dad was more into it doing the hill climbs and stuff.
Used to be a National Hill Climb by Birmingham or something, El Cap would know.

when i had a health check in france last year it was 48, which considering the smoking and not massive amount of exercise seemed amazing.
my exercise bike at home gives me around 55.
I think anything below 50 is considered pretty damned healthy, while 50 to 70 is around average for a normal healthy person?

Normal resting heart rate is 72 BPM, but is usually found between 60-80 bpm.
Tachycardia (increased HR) is usually defined as anything above 100 BPM.
Bradycardia (decreased HR) is below 60 BPM.
Young kids have higher resting HRs, athletes are lower.0 -

Yes that was it.
Were there any hill climb events around the midlands to (mainly near birmingham) you're originally from Walsall iirc? So might know.
