i want some sunglasses for wearing on xc type rides. I don't like most of the bloc range, and i don't want dedicated xc ones (ie, i want to be able to wear them at times i don't have a bike without looking a gimp).

So, any suggestions? I usually wear my oakley juliets but after crashing with them on on the black run at llandegla on monday, i now realise that i was being rather naive in thinking i wouldn't break them doing xc (and for their price i do not want to wreck them)

Oh, and i have quite a fat head...

  • i bought some animal wrap around shades at fort bill 2 years ago for like 5 quid. polarised lenses, the works. pretty light too and fit my fat head quite the thing. look cooler than oakleys too, just cant remember the model name! most animal wraps are cool though and should do the job.

  • I use Alpina. Double flex, swing 30. It means i can see the parts of the track in the shade and adjust the arm parts to the right angle. I'd never use anything else now tbh.

What lets you see shaded parts of the tracks? I'm loking at the web site now, the swings look alright if your on a bike, but a bit wierd off.

  • The pair i have are doubleflex and have two lenses, the main one is a light colour and then a dark lens clicks on top and the light lens underneath somehow shows up the dark parts of the tracks. I got them whilst snowboarding in Italy so i don't know if they're available in the UK.

I got some Oakley Radar specs the other day. They are amazing. The water repellent coating is great and actually work when you get cought in the rain. I got the G30 lenses and I was astounded at how clear the rocks/roots looked in contrast to the ground.

I use oakley halfjackets for riding, you can stick some mirrored lenses in for casual wear but you will still look a wee bit of a penis.

I just use a 25 quid pair of BBB Cruiser Freeride glasses. Does the job, don't care if i smash then up. Look cool on or off the bike. No probs with the sun/shade transition either.

i agree with sav. oakley half jackets. you can interchange lenses to suit whatever you're doing. and they are great sports glasses

I've got a pair of Bolle canebreaks - but i'd go with the oakleys, too. They're both great, and oakleys have a big brand behind them. Does mean you get a bit ripped, but the design - a - shade feature on their site is well cool.

They're a bit pro racer for my tastes really. If they were just for the bike, I might consider it, but I could never wear them off it.

Flakjackets then. Same kind of shape as the half jackets but with the same kind of features as the Radars.
