I'm doing the London to Brighton next month and need some slicks to replace the 2.35" Continental Gravity tyres on my Orange Five Pro Hope. Any recommendations? Also, what's the minimum width I can run?

TIA :)

Panaracer Razers are quite good. Not a slick as such but if you pump them up very firmly then they act like one and also can be used off road on hardpack.

Schwalbe City Jets are the business, 1.5 size (nice and thin), puncture proof and very fast.

    Thanks for the prompt replies.

I've had a quick look on Wiggle: http://wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?Cat=cycle&ProdID=5300003751

Sorry to be a numpty, but what do the various options mean?

Car type and Presta is the type of valve you use to pump them up; car type is the most common, the other is the really annoying thin one... I think. Isn't the car type's name Presta anyway? The other one is called Schraeder or something.

    26x1.5 means it's a 26" tyre with a size of 1.5".

You can get much higher pressures with that annoying thin one though.

Another alternative is the Schwalbe Marathon Slicks - got them on my commuter bike and they are pretty sweet

Any colour you like as long as it's Anodized Red

OK, I'm using 24mm WTB SpeedDisc rims so is there any restriction on how narrow a tyre I can fit, e.g. could I use a 1.3" even though my current tyres are 2.35"?

Thanks. And apologies once again for being stoopid!

Most rims give you a maximum size tyre. My faves are specialised fatboys, so fast it is ridiculous.

But is there a minimum size too?

IIRC most rim walls are about 1.3 apart so that would probably be your mimum without switching to 700c wheels.

I can strongly recommend these tyres, I use the 700c version on my 29er bike and they're very puncture resistant and fast rolling tyres.

    Schwalbe Marathon Plus

Might not be quite as fast rolling compared to pure slicks but will be alot less likely to puncture. I run mine at about 85psi.

Schwalbe do make some very good slick/semi slick tyres and as mentioned the City Jet would be a good option if you deffo want slicks

Several recommendations for Schwalbe, always a good sign so I'll go with them for the manufacturer; now to pick the product - Marathon Plus, City Jet or Super Motos. I like the idea of the City Jets simply because they are sold as a set at a fairly considerable saving. Realistically once the L2B is out the way I'll be going back to the knobblies so I don't want to fork out too much on the slicks.

I occasionally use the City Jets on my Orange P7. Bit of a challenge to get on and off but they are compatible with the stock WTB rims.

Cheers Clipper, that's helpful. I'll probably get my LBS to do it at the same time as giving the bike a quick service.

The City Jets have long been a favorite with commuters who don't want a road bike, I haven't tried many other 26" slicks but these will do the job very well and if you only use them occasionally they will last for ages.
