i work with a guy who can answer this but not gonna see him for a while so wondering if i could have some opinions. i was wondering weather you could stick a slightly longer rear shock with a larger stroke length on a stinky, thus raising the rear and alowing for a bit more travel and more sag?

You can, as with any frame, but it's unlikely to do much good for the handling.
It'll raise the BB and steepen all the angles.

yea i was thinking that. would love to be able to play around with a few mm to see if it could be improved but sadly i don't have the cash for shocks to test that! lol.

i did it once ages ago with an i-drive.i had to put a 24" back wheel on to return the geometry.this improved the clearances as well.it didnt cost me anything to do though.the travel went from 4.5" to nearly 6".it was great at landing drops but i wouldnt recommend spending any cash doing itkester0

Provided the frame can handle it, i'd say the same i2i length, but with longer stroke. will avoid screwing the geometry up, but give a little extra travel.
But if your going to try it, for gods sake make sure the frame can take it. not going to be much fun if the frame reaches the end of its travel and self destructs [;)]

Something round here tastes bad. Could be plain old bad taste.

A friend of mine has put a slightly longer stroke Marzocchi Rocco on his 05/04 (orange one) Stinky.
Other than for some reason making the rear disc rub (I don't get that) it feels quite nice.
But, the shock only cost him a tenner.
