I can get cheaper car insurance as a medical student. [:p]
Coincidentally I was checking this out. If i were to buy myself a BMW 325 ci coupe i could save œ400 by doing medicine. Admittedly, œ4,400 aint that much better than œ4,800...[V]0 -
Norwich Union has always been the most expensive with me! no matter what car i've had, named drivers etc it has always been a lot more than other quotes.
you had a look on www.gocompare.com

Cheapest from gocompare was the same as the cheapest from moneysupermarket.
Swiftcover at œ1300.

I *just* got insured on a Nissan Micra 1.3i on my parents insurace, and they wanted œ300 more to the excess, which already has my sister on it who was œ270, and they said I cannot "commute" whatever that means - we rekon they are just taking us for a ride. Just got to get round to changing the insurance. It could even be just as cheap to get my own insurance and start building up a No Claims Bonus!0

Yep. It sucks being a new driver. I've had a liscence more than 2 years with no infarctions or crashes, in a 1.0 car and it's still not worth my while getting my own policy or paying the extra to 'commute' or get an excess that would actually make it worth making a claim.
All the commuting bit means is that you can't drive to a paying job. The individual insurer will have its own version of whether or not that means you can drive to a school/ college/ uni.
Mine wouldn't let me drive to school, but i can drive to uni/ around campus. And to non-paying placements. But i can't drive my drum kit across campus to play a paying gig.0 -
Whats SP30? speeding in a 30?
oh, and btw, see if you can add one of your parents, it may actually reduce your premium.

sp30 is exceeding the statutory speed limit, whatever it happens to be.
Norwich Union quoted me about œ2.5k on my BMW which was pretty laughable. How do they expect to sell any insurance?

Mythic Meg
0 -
they dont
not to people like us anyway
hence high prices
is a scam they want me to pay œ1000tpft on my new corsa sport with a years no claims
even if i bin it i dont get a new car/insurance payout so what a scam

balls to that. i'm switching to hastings direct as they quoted me about 450 third party or about 550/600 fully comp for next year at 20, one years no claims and an accident 2 years ago(although i wasnt at blame they still think it fair to put my premium up)
even now i'm paying almost half what youve been quoted though!
it is an old crappy car, but that doesnt matter hugely, i've had quotes on bigger engines and various cars and theyve all come out similar

I pay about œ350 on my BMW... though I do remember paying œ900 for six months cover when I first started driving, in a 1.1 fiesta...

Toyota Supra, 6-speed manual, non-turbo, 1994 reg.
Driver: 18, 1yr ncb, living in low crime rate zone, car parked in garrage.
Car is fitted with tracking device, is low milleage and is social, domestic and pleasure only.
TPFT - œ1450.
Now that's a decent quote. If you're an 18 year old driving a three-litre monster!

norwich union seem to like safe bets, they really shy away from younger drivers.
It costs œ500 quid for me to be on the fleet, fully comp on my truck + a whole host of other toys. Thats with norwich union and its a bargain!
