Ok, I wanna fit a Hollowtech 2 to "The Wife's" bike, do I have to worry about axle length?

Or should i get the LBS to fit it first time and then i can jam about with it as i see fit at a later date as i know you have to prep the frame to make sure its parallel and I just know you need an expensive tool to do that.

Get the LBS to fit it first time.

No worrying with axle length or BB shell size. One size fits all (comes with spacers to fit any combination of with or without e-type and 68 or 73mm).

you do need an expensive tool to face the frame, get the lbs to do it.

deffo get the LBS to face your frame, its very easy to remove too much metal which will cause all sorts of problems. actually fitting the crankset is easy peasy and you might as well save yourself the cash and fit it yourself.
be aware, you will need a crank fitting toolthough, well worth buying anyway if you need to do crank related maintainence in the future

You only need to face the frame if its not had a BB instaled before. As for getting the tool, its a deffinate to do up your cranks properly. I'd get one from the internet too, Mine was œ15 from the shoppie.
