You're aware you can get programs that give you that along with other guages on XP and 2000 don't you?

Oh sure - but Vista makes it the full 100% better as it's in the sidebar. The only other reason to have it is for Windows + Tab, and erm, thats it!

I'm not sure, I use the revometer in my car if I want to watch rev's go up. I use my computer to browse the internet and build websites, amazing stuff you know these computers.

Ah - but you can do that from your computer while watching pr0n so it makes it a full 1000% better! And in lee_erms case as we know from his incident with Limewire - Pr0n plays a large part in his day-to-day life.

Pwnd. I am currently *TRYING OUT* vista so I can run some DirectX 10 demos on it - and its not all that bad - albeit you can't run alot of programs without crashing. I'm SURE things will get better - or the world will switch to Open Source software.

My brother has just bought a new laptop, has Vista on it. Its fiddly, I can't really see the advantages. And anyway, its completely useless to me, as none of the programs I use have versions that work with Vista.

I spent the day trying to get Gta san Andreas multi player trying to work on a laptop for someone

It took 5 attempts in the end to download the client, vista kept blocking access to it!

And that was enough to put me off it. i don't care if xp isn't going to be dx10. i don't care if crysis will run better in dx10. its just not worth the hassle for a game [:(]

Dual boot if you're desperate? Make a smallish Vista partition for the uber-DX10 games and keep your XP as your main?

By the time the serious DX10 games come out, Vista should hopefully be a lot better and less buggy. Remember XP when it first came out? It was crap. Just took a while to become stable enough to be useable

Can I actually play Windows games on it?

I don't want Vista for at least a year having used all the Alpha's and Beta's even since private release I can safely say it will self destruct, just a matter of time.

Nah, seriously, XP's not really a bad OS. It's stable unless you do anything ourtrageous with it (like run applications); it's secure unless you're stupid (and plug the internet into it); it's efficient with resources as long as you've got loads and loads of them; and it's really intuitive if you're wrong in the head.

It's nearly desktop ready.

Quite a few (BF2, HL, WoW etc.) are supported by Cedega

id habitually port all but their latest engine to Linux and give it out free. You can get the media off the Windows CD.
