great description, well done.
Deores would probably be the best bet, they have 2 moving pistons, the Julies only have one iirc - probably better modulation, although i have not used either, best to look at reviews.<hr noshade size="1">

seconded, go for deores over the maguras. my deore has been fine so far after a year and a half of abuse and one pad change/bleed. although that was only on the road, might be moe often off it.

julies have 2 moving pistonskester0
-
Have both and rate both although julies take a lot of bedding in and feel cheap they do have lots of stopping power. Deores are more hassle but reliable.0
-
how can they be more hassle but reliable?kester0
-
I find them personaly harder to set up but once they are setup more reliable. Like Hopes, I think they are the dogs but take ages to set up although feel the best once they are set up A1.0
-
one of my mates had deores for a while he soon discoverd that a cheap pair of shoes are much more effective stoppers

The new hopes aren't a pain to set up, took me about 5 mins.

And?
Shimano Deores.
Spares are easily available and I've heard lots of good things about them.

I have Julies on my Azonic. They work well, easy to set up spacing to the disc, stop well etc but they do look a bit big and cheap.
I have older Deore's on my Dmr. They have the best feeling lever of any brake ive tried, work almost as well as the Julies. I think they only have 1 piston though so you get some rub and getting them spaced right on the mount means faffing with washers. These are old ones though, new ones may be different
Either are good basically for the price, can get Julies new off ebay for under œ100

You should hear my front Deore then heh! Means you ride quicker to avoid braking though lol! Must get some sandpaper on the pads, my Julies are fine
