my home contents insurance only covers the bike to 500 squid but my bike cost 700
Wouldn't it be smart to make the sticky stuff on envelopes taste like chocolate?0 -

Im at uni, so ive got my bike(s) covered.
- Last year i was with Ensleigh, and they where ok.
- However there are issues with covering bikes over 3yo with them, and mine turn 3 this year.
I also bought a new bike (the rockhopper) so had a look round and asked on here, and i came up with "butterworth" insurence in liverpool, and am with them now.
- The give a discount on second bikes, as well as noclaims bonuses.
- Then also cover bikes on a replace-with-new policy on all ages.
- And there also not totatly anal with exactly what brand/make/type lock you use.
- And no more expensive...

My bike is under house insurance but they will only pay out ¶œ500, my bikes worth ¶œ1500! WEAK!
My mate has his Orange 22 covered under his house insurance n he pays few quid extra n it covered up to 5K.G.Hawkins0 -
Bike insurers are different in the way they pay out, for instance cycleguard have to source it themselves from a uk supplier, whereas ETA send a cheque, I've got both my bikes on ETA.

Sometimes it overheats. You have to make sure it's in a ventilated place all the time.

I'm also with Butterworth insurance. They're the official insurance company for the Cycle Touring Club which means that youre covered even if your camping and you leave your bike outside (It still has to be locked up obviously).
My bikes worth œ2k and I'm paying roughly œ165 a year which goes down by 10% every year up to 30% discount. They were the only insurance company that I could find that didn't require me to buy an œ80 lock or to get my frame chipped, although there is a further 10% discount if you do get it chipped.0 -
more than home insurance will cover it for the full amount as long as its nicked from the house. and theyre pretty cheap for contents insurance too [:)]
but outside my flat i'm fooked (although my mums home contents covers it for some reason!). saying that - its not like it gets left anywhere unnatended

Sorry to open an old thread but is quite an important topic...
Got my bikes covered as 'specified all risk' items on my home contents policy and as i have full accidental damage cover it also covers my bikes if i was to accidentally break them - even away from the house (ie out on the trails!!!) Think its a very useful option!
Home insurance broker is Swinton, insurer is AXA - very well recommended!

Got £4500 worth of bike insurance added to contents insurance, Nationwide. Includes away from home as well.... It added about £25 a month to insurance...09 - Santa Cruz Heckler
03 - Trek 8500
95 - P7 (Dead, but I loved it)
Year dot - Alpine Stars CR300 - Still going strong...0 -
£25 extra per month?? ouch! thats hefty!!!! think mine cost about £25 extra for the annual premium, if that much! full accidental damage cover away from the home on both bikes with their valuation of £1k each.**2009 Trek Remedy 8**

Marks and Spencer home insurance with premium away from home cover on all items, including bikes, valued up to 4000 pounds.'Hello to Jason Isaacs'0

i'm with evans cycles insurance!
bike is covered for £400 ... costs £30 a year and no excess!!
worth it in my opinion as that equates to only £2.50 a month!
you have to have an approved bike lock, my price bracket being silver secure rating so i just bought the cheapest silver rated lock i could find which set me back £370 -

I use to pay stupid amounts of around £300 for a year premium with these specialised insurers. Having got a 2nd bike now and each bike less than 6 months old totalling about £8500 theres just no way i would pay the £850 annual premium.
M&S - £80 a year and dont even have to name the items. Each bike covered up to £4k. Cover away from home is an additional £60 or so - its a no brainer!Ibis Mojo SL-r0 -
Dodgex1 wrote:E&L, cover me, mines worth 3.5-4k though so my house insurers refused.
Had a bike stolen from inside my locked & alarmed property.
Claimed on the house insurance, didn't get the full value of the bike, so rang E&L for a quote on the replacement.
Usual questions were asked... then I was asked if I'd ever made a claim, told them "yes, a bike was stolen from inside my locked & alarmed property"... the reply came, "We will not insure any bike as one has been stolen from inside your property"... WTF!!!! I did all I could to make sure my bike was safe!
Stupidly I then asked "what about the other bike that I have currently insured with you?", the reply was "we will cancel the insurance on that too"
E & L can suck my root :evil:0
