remanagement on southernfreerider.co.uk

What I find really sad about all of this is how negative you lot all are. There is good and bad in all forums so why do you all have to slag each other off all the time. Whilst not a hard core freerider the SF site has some good information about rides in this region.
And why the North South Divide. Admitedly in the South we don't have the huge mountains of Scotland so we make do with what we have got and there are some very good trails at Leith Hill, Haldon, Ashton Hill, Chicksands just like there are some very good areas across the country.
At the end of the day we all love mountain biking so why can't we all just get along and slag off roadies?0 -
We have the north/south divide because people in the south have this impression that the north is everything between Manchester and Cumbria. When MBUK do testride weekends, they invariably don't bother coming further north than North Wales. Riders who live in the south seem to prefer to head to France rather than actually bother with trails in Scotland.

Can't complain about that UHDH, at least the trails will be less crowded and there'll be less idiots around!

Same time, less people actually coming to Scotland to ride means less money going back into trail development, and a longer time to get enough visitors at Innerleithen for them to build a chairlift.

There is one track in Scotland with lift access, thats open for 4 hours a day, and costs a score to use.
Vs.
Somewhere that (in our case) takes just as long to get to, yet you get access to an entire region, with countless tracks and lifts, for œ50 for a 2 week pass.
Unfortunately, bit of a no brainer.

Thats because alpine ski resorts have an almost guaranteed source of income to fund business ventures. They also know that the riders will appear because they have lifts. The Scottish economy requires us to get the users before they can commit to such a serious venture. We get the visitors, we will get new uplifts. Inners needs 25,000 visitors a year. Glenshee has started trailwork and is planned to be open next summer. Stuff is appearing, but it needs the riders to make it work.

Uh...
May be a problem with riding Fort Bill.
The Worlds are in August/september. IIRC, the tracks are closed from the end of August because the champs are a fortnight long. And the track is quite probably closed to the public after the Champs. You could still ride other places in Scotland, just unlikely to get on the Fort Bill track.

I can remember speaking to the guys up there a few years ago when I was marshalling and they said that the tracks are open for a few days after the champs. I know there was an open xc race in '05 anyway straight after, not too sure about the dh.
