So you've run out of hard drive space?

60g is quite easy to fill, especially if you've got music or video on there.

I have about 1GB containing music and video,

Its just the fact that i barely have any proograms on it, and ive ran out of space.

When i go onto my computer, On local disk C it says i have 135mb left, when i go into it, the biggest file i can find is 1gb, where has all the other memory gone???

You have a 1gb file? What is it?

Have you done the disk cleanup thing? start -> accessories -> sytem tools IIRC.

Other than that, you want a tool to tell you what the biggest directories are. No idea what that is under windows.

    Just had another look.
I went onto Local Disk c:
Documents and Settings (more than 45gb)
Then theres three folders, Administration (18.1 mb) All Users (180mb) Joshs (46.1gb)
When i go onto Joshs (thats the name of my computer) theres 7 folders, but none of them have any big space taking up, there all like 150mb.
    Where is that 45gb gone?

Some prgrams, like uTorrent, allocate file space on your HD. ie - when you start a 30GB download, it will create a file which size is 30GB, even if you haven't actually downloaded that amount. You could have done this, although its unlikely.

    Get a new hard drive?

They're hardly expensive, and if your Toshiba have been kind, they're easy to replace.

Yeah but getting a new harddrive for a laptop isn't as simple as that...

try running ccleaner as well - you need to make sure you've got hidden files and folders visible - when you click joshs it should have more folders you just need to look at the properties of each sub folder and eventually you'll work out where all this space is being used up.

No, it can be very easy. It varies from laptop to laptop, but some are really simple. No more difficult than a desktop really.

I've found on Google a little page talking about Toshiba Satellite laptops and it says it's really easy. Obviously it will be a different model but have a look.

id do the same, and then as above, do lots of diskcleanups, virus scans (use avast) and then go to Add/Remove Programs to see what you have, then do a defrag.

Yeah, that's a good alternative if he's terrified of opening his computer like the majority of users. That said, for a laptop keeping it all internal and easily portable is a bonus.
