Havn't the faintest how to sticky this.....but meh!
Why not have a mini race blog to see how us racers (magnus, acid, Smithy etc..) get on throughout the year. Be good to see contrasting views and series.
My season starts on Sunday. Not completely ready at all due to exams and other commitments, but we'll see how things go, not long till Thetford.

I approve of this idea. One of you email me when you have your first race report to stick up, and I'll create a topic and sticky it, then you can post your reports in there.0

Good plan Mike. My first race will be SXC round1, april 1st! Right now i've caught another bl**dy cold. Well cheesed off, have been on really strong form recently too. Hopefully it will clear quickly.
Magnus, are you doing the Ft bill SXC E2 event?

Well, i raced yesterday, warm up race. I have done 1 speed work session since November, i really wasn't expecting much:
Lap 1: Worst start straight in existance. Up down, up etc... for the 1st mile, loose stoney and generally a real shock on the legs. I was riding around 10/60 which was flippin awful!
Lap 2: Legs came to life and i steamrolled through the first bit of the course, finally got rythymn. Then, chain snap. Ran virtually all the lap to the pits, fixed went on.
Lap 3/4: Shagged after running but lap 3 was fast enough and 4 wasn't too bad but the run did it for me.
The course was a flat cracker but relentless, it lacked flow and the last stretch was a pure quagmire as i was racing in the last race of the day. I'm not that pissed off, off the back of solely base training and a busy exam period lap times weren't too bad. The top 2 in my race/ 2nd in the Elites i will be racing against this year and they are absolutely flying! Role on next race.

wicked where was that mike, just and a look at results for that race in time laps Shaun had a sprint finish with elite winner that guys a freak, Alex Paton looks like he pretty awesome as does Billy Joe, and i was hopeing for a top 3 in the southerns not looking to hopeful if they all do it. I got a road race this sunday but a mates 18th on sat night so will see how that goes.... then another mtb week after that. The next month i am racing pretty much every weekend if i want/can handle it

Acid, to put things into perspective of what we are up against. The rider who finished 5th, more or less 8 minutes down on the winner, spent the winter in Australia/New Zealand racing, and yet he still finishes that far down.
The thing is because of the Worlds this year, the ODP are being worked extra hard by BC and they themselves are taking things to the next level in order to be picked. Due to time/College/having to work in the week for my money/wanting a social life, there is no way in hell I'm going to be able to compete against people who almost certainly don't go to college, have large backing financially to pay for things and backing from BC.
For example, this weekend both Billy and Alex raced road on the Saturday, MTB on the Sunday which has been greatly recommended to me by one of my coaching sources. I work on Saturdays and can't have the support to attend that many races. At 16, i started way too late.

im 16, uber keen and am thinkin bout entering the scx races.... but im not sure how it all works as it will be my firt race! any1 got any advise?? tim

that is mental, even if i could find the time to race that often in a competative field would cost loads as would need to travel off island all the time, i have considered quiting work and going to ride in belguim but its mtb i want really not road allthough could concentrate on road then go back to mtb still wouldn't get near those guys. Mike know how people more our ability are getting on like kurt warner etc? do you think shaun and billy and alex will race juniour in southerns or give them selves a longer harder race expert or elite?

Too late? I'm 25 and am just about to start my second year racing!! Many people go out too hard too young and just burn themselves out before they have developed properly. I wouldn't worry about it right now, at 16 you have plenty of years ahead of you, just keep spinning those cranks!

there is many cases of this in guernsey have a national champ you never even touches his xc bike anymore, have a rider that battled with the ian's but never rides anymore,as they get older cars, girls and booze take over so they opt for downhill as needs no time to train compared to xc

I spent some time last year in belgium acid as you know!Superb period of time ,some of the best.If i dont get on the odp next year im packing in school and just heading straight out to join a group of about 8 lads i allready know living out there all 17 years or so.I know a fair few guys who did that and are now riding in pro continental teams with pro tour not far away.Give it a go even if its in your holidays from work and see what you think.

This years going to be one of the hardest for all the juniors, theres a large focus on the worlds up at fort william and everyones doing there best to try and be reconised.
I took 6 weeks off in the winter to go and visit family in newzealand and come back to find everyone as fit as ever people are improving every race (and some getting worse in my case)
no-ones a 100% sure when the final decision will be made for the team going upto fort william but im sure we'll see on of the most competitive saesons yet!!!!!!!0 -
you doing southern xc this year jake? alot of people don't even race at this time of year or are only just starting to(like me) so shouldn't worry too mauch about where others are they may burn themselves out

Jake's been on fire initially this season, i suspect Crowethorne was only a blip, everyone was anhialated, it seems Alex has kept his pace from the cross season with him. And yes competition this year is going to be hard, the Southerns will be at the same pace as the NPS (for the juniors), with the same top riders give or take a few. On top of the Worlds being a priority, this is the last season for a few riders to prove themselves if they want to turn professional.

just done seasons first road race, kinda sucked because someone in my group dropped back so i tried to bring them back into the pack but the pack was going too fast to catch again so it was just three of us riding around together, but not really too bothered as it is still very early in the season and i allways take a month or two of racing to get fast

yep should be at the southern xc races this year, going to try and start a bit of road racing aswell if you know of any good ones0

don't really know of many road races in england but i hear the southern divs are quite good, i am hoping to do the national road race in augest, had another xc race today i hated it was a pretty flat couse abit windy, but it had loads of rock sections that were hard to do let alone do smoothly so it disrupted the rythem and i never really got into a decent rythem, i also punctured after about half an hour and had to ride someones epic whilst it was fixed, then i lost all the air in my shock, hopefully my luck will change as i am racing in france next weekend. Anyone else have any races today?

I did, catastrophic like all my last races have been.
A college trip in Iceland climbing volcanos etc.. last week meant I havn't really ridden for two weeks now, so still sod all speed work done. Flat course which got real groggy then on top of that they put all top cats together which on a small twisty course meant carnage (I was at the back). After an awful first lap in which i had two mechanicals and a couple of offs, i latched onto some of the leading vets for a few laps. At a bridge crossing one of them went over then i coollided and follwed and was catapulted over the handlebars into a pool of mud, from then on i really couldn't be arsed, i also forgot to put my race number on so it was all in vein! (doh!)That's life eh?

did the race in france, was super muddy but still enojoyed it, dont normally like muddy races but bike worked fine throughout and as there was 24 juniors and we were set off 3 mins behind the masters. espoir's and elites i was constantly catching people up so was a really good race, i came 11th in juniors, winner was 17mins ahead of me he time was only 1hr 23, so the standered is probably just as good dare i say it better then england(or the southerns at least)
