NASS to fill show void left by closure of Bike
Haymarket pulled the plug on the Bike Show last November. Future Publishing, founder of the show and main magazine backer of the show following its acquisition by Haymarket, couldn't step in to create its own show in 2006 because of restrictive covenants in the original sale contract. Bunny-hopping this impasse the organising company behind the National Adventure Sports Show has a Spring consumer show called Bike to be held "in a prestigious centrally located venue in the Midlands in April 07."
"Plans have been in the pipe line for some time and the event is set to be launched this coming spring," said a statement from Urban Freesports

"With a fresh approach to exhibiting and attending this will be a perfect platform for the huge global market of bikes and biking.

"To be held in a prestigious centrally located venue in the Midlands in April 07, the organisers will fill the void left behind by the Bike Show and create a progressive event with involvement from the biking industry and the riders.

"With extensive contacts in the Sports and Music industries Urban Freesports are guaranteed to put on a great show. This will be a great show for us and we intend to make it a solid success for all who attend its going to be an event the industry can call its own and rely on" said a statement on the NASS06 website.

July's National Adventure Sports Show - NASS06 - will be staged in the NEC in 2006.

BMXer Mat Hoffman and skateboarder Tony Hawk - huge names - have confirmed attendance at NASS.

2006 will be the tenth annual running of NASS. The show is for all 'adrenalin' sports but majors on BMX, skate, MTB and MX.

Previously the show was an outdoors summer festival at the Bath & West agricultural showground with a campsite, beer tents and, er, all that entails.

The Bike Show was formerly staged at the NEC but moved to the Stoneleigh agricultural showground in 2005, losing 3000 visitors in the process.
