respray

im resparing my MTB black(its currently grey), and i was wondering is you guys had tips on how to do it well. ive resprayed a bike befor, and i sanded all the paint off, then sprayed 3 thin coats of paint(halfords car paint), and the 3 coats of laquer, but it still seemed to scratch off, is there any way to do it so it has that 'new bike' finish.
