Almost certainly my final new thread creation on here...

Anyone bought one, or thinking of buying one?

I'm looking at the £2k 2x11 Shimano 105 version, as per...

https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/electrical-assistance-road-bike-e-edr-af-105-2x11s-red/_/R-p-335142

My stamina to do anything like my old regular 30+ mile rides in the South Downs lanes even without max effort up hills, typically averaging 60+ feet of climbing from SO18 on eastern edge of Southampton, is still way down on what it was before Oct '22.

Tempted as claims of up to 100Km and they only weigh ~14Kg, which will help me get it indoors like my other bikes as it's only ~1.5Kg heavier than my Marasa hybrid (and ~5Kg heavier than my '16 Cube Attain GTC Disc bargain after the Rutland PSA on here years ago).

35mm tyre clearance without guards, bit more than my Cube, which is handy as the state of the lanes is getting worse besides the butter smooth tarmac on Longwood Dean Lane!

The lack of standardised max distance testing makes me question the 100Km claim, even if using eco mode which is fine for just bit of help, especially when I'm still struggling to get under 95Kg when I was 80Kg in '22.

Would love to be able to visit the likes of the ~4 mile hill north of Petersfield and even Milland Hill for first time in 2.5+ years.

  • Can't say I have any experience of electric bikes bit if it helps you get out on some favourite roads and enjoying your cycling then go for it. Heard good things about the Van Reysel range and having seen bikes and apparel in Decathlon, it is all decent quality stuff in the flesh.

Check what the support is like for whatever brand the motor is ,looks like a Mahle hub motor in the pics. You'd be surprised the amount of shops that sell bikes with no diagnostic support for the brands they sell ,just make sure they or someone close has the diagnostics for it
