Gianni Savio, one of the biggest characters in Italian cycling has died, aged 76.

He kept a team a team going for 30 years and in more recent years introduced South American riders to the European peloton with the intent of getting a transfer fee., Most notably Egan Bernal.

    That's really sad. I knew he wasn't well during the Giro when Freibos paid him a house call but I can't recall it being life threatening.

    Loved his Pro Cycling columns and his podcast vignettes.
