Should Tom Pidcock swallow his pride and retire? (Who is he going to sign for?)

Seeing as he just left a world tour team and all that ;-)

Clearly (Hopefully evident) this is a mickey take on my part, to echo the loony toons thread some muppet started about Cav back in the mists of time.

Personally I am a big TP fan, love the way he rides, and am hoping he has a really successful few years ahead of him.

When will Pidders announce where he is going do we think, presumably it is a done deal, I wonder if it will be kept a secret until the new year, as he is not one to court publicity, and seems to value his private life.

I'm guessing the destination team will want to make the most out of it publicity wise as well.

Be very interesting to see what his race calendar will be for next year - and I'm assuming no CX outings upcoming?

All the talk is about Q36.5, currently on the very excellent Scott bikes, being a Scott fanboi myself, I would very much like them to continue on Addicts and Foils, however their very rich backer/owner Ivan Glasenberg has a major stake in Pinarello, so would that either see them shift over to Pinarello and Ineos stay with Pinarello too potentially, or Ineos move to another brand?

Random thought for the day - presumably Ivan is in this for the longish haul with Q36.5, and would want a WT team eventually.

Just wondering if any tentative talks have been had about a possible option for buying the Ineos team out in a few years time, partially to gain their licence.

If google is to be believed, ole Ivan has a net worth of $9.9bn, versus Jimbo's $15.9bn, so he's got reasonable reserves you would imagine.

The talk I've seen away from this site seems to think that Red Bull - Bora is the no brainer on the basis of him being a Red Bull sponsored rider but that ignores the obvious that WVA is also a Red Bull rider so they don't really care what team sponsored riders are on.

I'm hoping he will re-tyre as soon as possible, to the Challenge Team Edition tubular, but it's unclear if he'll race any cross at all this season, or exactly when his contract is ended (released immediately or end of this month?). What would he ride on with no official team?

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Sounds like he's retired from top level racing top me.

It’ll be interesting to see how this works out for him. I genuinely hope it’s everything he’s looking for.

Scott are shouting about it, so doesn't sound like an imminent bike brand change:

    Three years at least.

I'm assuming Q36.5 are hoping a license goes up for sale at some point, because they're not getting to WT in '26 on points, and they're not getting automatic invites in '25 for anything.

Maybe they're going to buy the licence off Ineos and Pidcock will end up back in the same team. Something like that happened to a person I used to work with, he came to us from a company he hated then moved on again somewhere else then a few months later that company was bought out by the one he hated working for.

lol, yes I've seen that happen to some poor bugger I know twice. Left a big bluechip company for a smaller one, that then got taken over by the former company. Left again, only for it to happen for a 2nd time 🤣

I wonder if the whole thing might even be planned out as such, Ratters steps aside, and Glazzers takes up the licence, and team etc etc

    Interesting times for sure.

Is Ryder still involved in Q36.5? Lost total respect for him when he fronts an Afrrican team, but got sponsored by dodgy crypto company owned by a 'white lives matter' protagonist.

I was a Pidcock fan. Not if he's involved with Ryder.

Does Pidders need to push for a multi-discipline bike league, so he can play on various bike types with the likes of MVDP and WVA?

Not got a lot of time for Ryder either, but given the team owners/sponsors in the peloton right now I'd be hard pressed to fault Pidcock for agreeing to work with him. Have you seen who he's leaving?

SM reporting Young Tom is being paid 8M Euros per year. Seems he has a good agent?

It's official, Pidcock has retired... From cyclocross this season. He says he'll be back next year.

  • Odd decision, if he likes mixing up his competitive cycling disciplines, which he clearly does.

He should get the team doing some type 2 fun CX winter training, with some MTB thrown in, along with some training around Mount Teide's tarmac over the winter.

A decision I expected in all honesty - makes sense. A move to a new team, with a new bike, equipment, new team mates, etc And after all the 'transfer nonsense' the last few months.

Get prepared for the racing in the spring on the road, followed by a summer of MTB......there's a World title to regain - and on a course where he won this year.

CX can wait until next autumn/ winter - and one would love to see him do the odd Swiss race, now he's on a Swiss team. There was a time when the Swiss, not the Belgians ruled 'Cross.
