New Wheelset
My rear wheel has died on the doctor's table and I need your extensive knowledge to help me to avoid making the same rubbish purchase again.
I need recommendations/advice on a wheelset (quick release and rim brake) that will survive 15-40 miles per trip involving, as a nature-landscape-loving amateur photographer, cycling over filthy and rough country lanes as part of many of these gallivants. I know such wheels may not have been invented yet, so I'm looking for the least worst option.
Ideally, I'd like the best fit for my Schwalbe Marathon Greenguard 700-32c tyes and Shimano Tiagra HG500 10 Speed Cassette Silver 11-34. Price limit is probably £150 (Ireland/UK) - it may be low but there's likely to be a high casualty rate because of the places I go to and I'd rather not spend my trips worrying about my expensive wheels.

The answer would have been the most basic Shimano wheels (which were R501s / RS010s) which were dirt cheap and cup and cone so highly user serviceable. However think they are discontinued and could only find one place selling at a semi sensible price so IMO I would get the Vision Team 30s Merlin have for £70.
There is no longer much of a market for "a slight upgrade on stock wheels" at around your budget as everyone switches to discs (and inflation puts others out of reach). So as a result I would just go for the cheapest you can find from a decent brand and those Visions fit the bill perfectly.
Edit - just noticed the Visions are front only so not a great price. Checked and Shimano RS100 look available from a few places at bang on your budget. Galling that you will spend c£150 on what would have been about £60 a few years ago but good wheels and fit the brief perfectly...

Thanks for that - Tweeks Cycles have the RS100 for £76 delivered. I'm leaving my vanity aside and getting the rear wheel only. Anyway, I've just realised: my front wheel (Giant) is marked 'SR-2' in white while the Shimano shows 'RS'.

Final check - you don't see any possible issue with my aforementioned cassette and tyre?

No all quite standard, both tyre and cassette should be fine.

Thanks very much for putting my mind at ease.

Hello again! I'm about to fit the new wheel but I don't know whether I need to use the included spacer with my Shimano CS-HG500 10-speed cassette.
Please share your wise thoughts once more.

I would think yes. Most hubs now are 11 speed compatible at minimum, meaning the 10 speed cassettes need the spacer. From memory it should be 1.68mm thick or something like that. You'll soon know anyway when you try and tighten the lockring if you leave the spacer off... it'll be loose.

10 speed cassettes need a spacer as do 11 speed 11 to 34 cassettes.

Spacer fitted - all went well. Thanks very much for your advice.
