Scott Spark RC vs Specialized Epic 8 vs others
Hello. I want to switch from hardtail to a full bike.
Which is better and why?
- Scott Spark RC Team / Pro / Issue TR
- Specialized Epic 8 Comp
Alternative options:
- Orbea OIZ M-ProK
- TM Scarp MT Elite AXS
- Kross Earth TE
- Lapierre XRM 6.9 (only XL 51cm available at store)
- Mondraker F-Podium DC
Budget: maximum $6000 (assume 10% discount at store)
Purpose: XCM (Cross Country Marathon), both flat and mountains (stones, roots, etc)
Priorities:
- which one has better geometry for racing?
- which has better damper and fork? what are differences?
- which has better (faster) wheels?
- how about built-in components like dropper seatpost? are they good or need to be replaced?
- does it make sense to buy cheaper (heavier) bike and replace wheels to some carbon ones?

I can only comment on the Scott Spark, I have an older version that is equivalent to the Tesm Issue TR.
It is a very stiff frame, perfectly capable for racing. It is a an XC bike but geometry and 120mm travel front and rear means it can handle more technical terrain.
The Synchros alloy wheels that all mid range Scott's come with are good. I haven't felt the need to upgrade to carbon but that is personal choice.
You will probably find that across all the choices you have listed, forks and components will be a similar level.
The main thing with the Spark is the look, they have the hidden rear shock which gives the frame a very bulky downtube and bb area. I like it but not to everyone's taste.
