Spain on a Bike

I have been thinking about backpacking (more like Bikepacking) in Spain next year. I'd like to rent a bike and explore what the country has to offer.

While looking around online, I discovered this fantastic guide on crazyguyonbike, which includes some epic routes https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/?o=3d2&doc_id=24899&v=k8

Which routes would you recommend to riders who are familiar with them? I have two weeks to explore, so I could probably complete 2-3 of the routes, depending on stopping points. Interested most in the scenery and cultural side of Spain.

That sounds like an incredible adventure! Bikepacking through Spain is definitely an unforgettable experience. The guide on crazyguyonabike seems to have some amazing routes that will make your trip memorable.

I haven't had the chance to follow those specific routes myself, as it took about 44 days in total, but you might be able to do portions of them. The only cycling I've done in Spain was the North Coast route along the Cantabrian Coast. I tackled it as a self-guided trip to explore it at my own pace (those knees aren't what they used to be!). A guided tour might be a great option for you if you want to cover more ground and delve deeper into some of the other epic routes on that crazyguyonabike guide.

Have a blast exploring Spain on two wheels, it's truly an unforgettable experience!

  • Thanks for the information, Dany. I asked this question somewhere else also. Some suggested a self-guided tour, some suggested a guided one. I'm opting for a guided one. I'm contacting a guide from https://gowithguide.com/spain for this Laguardia to Estella bike tour. Let's see. In the meantime, I am looking for other options as well.

That's a great approach! A guided tour for your Spain bikepacking trip will provide local expertise and support while you enjoy the sights. I experienced a flat tire while riding my bike in Spain, and Google Maps did not provide the latest details on nearby bicycle shops.

A local guide could easily suggest alternative or extended routes if you want to add some extra mileage. Most guides are flexible and happy to customize the itinerary. Don't forget to share photos and reflections when you get back.
