Look Keo Cleats

I found a barely used pair of Look Keo's on an old bike I had forgotten about, so I am going to stick them on my bike.

Need to purchase some cleats. Should I stick to Look's own brand or has anyone had any good experiences with some of the cheaper copies available?

I've used Wellgo / Xpedo - as they are what comes with Assiomas and seem to be easier to clip in / out than Looks.

I've just ordered a couple of sets from Aliexpress at £3 each so I'll let you know how I get on with them - I know there are a lot of fakes out there but this was from a larger store, its cheap but not outrageously so, and if you were going to fake you'd fake Looks over Wellgo branded ones.

  • Cheers, look like they might be worth a try. I might just be a tightarse, but I can't bring myself to pay £15 quid or so for 2 small bits of plastic!

  • I can't comment on the Keo copies, but a couple of friends tried the cheap Shimano copies with the same result, the plastic distorted remarkably quickly so that they couldn't disengage easily after about 3 months. I'd pay the £15.

There are copies and there are copies though... Shimano (for SPD-SL) have tight control of patents so much of what is on the market are fakes or unauthorized (other than originals).

For Looks there are a lot more alternate brands making compatible pedals and cleats, as is also the case for Shimano SPD.

Keo compatible pedal bodies like Assiomas are actually made by Xpedo, who make lots of other OEM pedals and cleats, often sold with Wellgo branding (as were the ones that came with the Assioma). I have bought Lifeline cleats with that branding from Wiggle. Those have worked great for me in the past, and waiting to find out if my £3 AliExpress ones are as good as the £5 Lifeline ones I used to be able to get.

  • Cheers both. Just to update, I found some Look cleats in Decathlon for £11 so got those and have ordered some spare Xpedo one's for future, so best of both worlds hopefully!

I have proper Look pedals, and always buy the official cleats for them, but also have a pair of Assiomas, and from having led a ton of reviews was under the impression that the cleats that fit best with these, are the Wellgo/Lifeline cleats.

I saw a fair few reviews (Though I can't remember which way around it was) saying that they either had issues clipping/unclipping, or it came out of the pedal too easily.

Also saw a review that said the Look keo cleats squeaked like a mouse in a salad spinner (my paraphrasing), when used with the Assiomas.

I bought a stock of the lifeline ones in before they went down the pan.

Agree with MG, £15 for a pair is somewhat steep though, it's been an age since I bought any, think I landed some from the now defunct PBK for ~£9 per pair, so the £11 you found them for is really good imho.
