Would this make an ok turbo trainer bike?

I’ve not been having any luck looking for a cheap second hand turbo trainer bike to put on my Tacx neo trainer for zwifting.

Then I saw this on GCN! https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9433788

Would this make a good turbo bike?

Could be, but 2x7 speed gearing would be too limiting for my use, ie lots of major climbing.

Check that the gear ratios suit your requirements.

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Is this a thing even on turbo trainers?

Depends how you are going to use it - I mostly use the workouts, in which you don't use the gears at all and the trainer ramps the resistance up and down to do intervals or sustained efforts at X watts. X is a small number in my case.

I'm happy enough with a 1980s fully rigid MTB (more like a hybrid really). I put it in a mid gear that runs reasonably smoothly (because the derailleurs are both ropey) and ride.

..but if you are Zwift racing you'll need gears

Not certain 7-speed cassettes fit on smart trainers, 8-speeds do.

^you just need loads of spacers.

Tacx Neo 2 requires at least 8 speed so I’d just need one spacer right?

Think you'll need 1.85 and 4.5mm spacers, or equivalent.

If you decide to go up to 9,10,11 you will need to check shifter/derailleur compatibility

This popped up on my feed. Zero interest to me but very relevant to the OP, especially as brakes are unimportant.

The gearing remains the biggest issue imo.

You’ll be fine. Spacer for the cassette and crack on.
