Budget Hardtail

HI All,

This is likely a common topic but what hardtail mountain bike would you recommend for £300-400. I am coming from a road bike as my son has now taken to mountain bike trails in the local forests but nothing big.

I want to get something cheap to get into it. I have a couple of options. I would prefer to keep it close to 300 but not sure if that Is possible.

This seems the best but is the most expensive - Halfrods Voodoo Bragg at 464

But this is more in my price bracket - Scott Aspect at 360

or there is the decathlon rock rider at 399

or something really cheap

Can other suggestions or comments on what to look for would be appreciated

Thanks

Paul

Either the voodoo or Scott 760 would be my choice. However slightly left field is the Carrera fury which is by far the best. Whilst there normally out of your budget I've spotted halfords are doing some slights 2nds, may be worth a look if there in your size.

I know the "pre owned" can be a minefield but I bought my 3 Saracens new 14 years ago (Mantras) they last forever, and I have just converted one tio an E mountain bike thanks to Cogs Y Gogs Wales (UK)

TBH the fact is halfords makes me suspect they should be bang on otherwise they wouldn't risk selling them.

  • OH and I have Trek Marlin 6s, been well pleased with them, frame is the same through the range, just the spec is different for each model. They also have rack and mudguard points , handy for touring.
