The bus will have formed before 25 kms are covered, since the bottom slopes of the Var are the steepest.

So it’s another long day of handlebar chewing for them.

Re the early finish: I assume it’s due to there being only one viable exit road.

On that formula, 16.1km x (7.1x7.1) would score 811 points. Well into the HC. I know it's not "just" maths, but shurely shome mishtake?

Yeah he is on the ropes.

As I keep saying, recovery is as much about not having to go as deep because your legs are mega, and so good legs make good third weeks.

It's weird. Typically a Cat 1 finish after a couple of hard mountains gets lifted to HC rather than the other way around

I wasn't trying to compare the gradients of the two stretches I mentioned, I know the last bit up to the Cime is steep, I was talking about how I personally found them.

I've now checked the gradients and the last 2 kms of the Glandon are average 10% with short stretches up to 20%, and I probably pushed so hard there, I had nothing left for the link up to Croix de Fer, which is 2.5 km at 6%.

The last bit up to the Bonette is on average just under 9% with very brief bits at 13-14%, however the whole 22 kms ascent from Jausiers to Restefond only gets above 10% for a couple of very short stretches, and clearly didn't sap my energy for the final ramp up to the Cime.

I think isila is cat 1 to help someone not on GC to win the polka dots

Which side of the Glandon did you go up? North or South?

I've done both sides and do not recall anything close to 20% on either side.

The views from the top of the col de Vars are spectacular btw. And the descent has incredible tarmac at the moment.

Who said Visma sending Jorgensen up the road was a sign that Vingegaard was no longer up to the task?

    Cos he’s there….

I have noticed that when ITV4 cover the whole stage, Hatch is first up for Eurosport, but when they start late, it’s Kirby.

Kirby covering the finish today by that reckoning.

It's weird, because it's a classic attacking move as well as a defensive one

I'm not convinced satellite riders work that well as an offensive plan. They can be beneficial, as they were the other day, to help out a GC rider in trouble (watch now as Jonas jumps across to Jorgenson on the Bonnette and they do a massive two-up to take the yellow jersey). UAE either not very bothered or expected the teams fancing a stage win to close it down.

Laporte is just there to get Jorgensen up the road I guess

They rotate don't they? Hatch did the finish yesterday so it does seem likely to be Kirby today. FWIW I've found him more tolerable in this Tour.

    Laporte definitely driving the break.

I ridden both sides, but here I mean North side, from La Chambre. About 900 m short of the top, there is about 30 m at 20% followed by 60m at about 15%. The last 2 kms has 4 hairpins, and this very steep bit is just after taking the second hairpin when ascending.

Jorgensen and Kelderman out front. Which could be interesting.

Not sure why, but Kelderman goes for the sprint points…

Apparently Vingegaard is riding with just one chainring. Presumably he has intentions or at least ambitions. Or maybe for the last climb he will change bikes?

Satellite riders work as an offensive plan only to hammer more nails into a rider that's already been gapped. If Pog had had Adam Yates ahead on stage 11, he'd have won that day.

This looks to me like they want Jorgenson to win the stage.

He's on whatever their aero model is, but stripped down to around the minimum weight, so no bike change required. They did similar with the TT last year to avoid the change.
