Ethnic minorities in sports
Watching football right now, England Netherlands.
How come in many sports, at the highest level at least, are ethnic minorities so much more represented, compared to the numbers on the whole population?
Real question, no spam.

With football it's just socioeconomics. Plus footie is a game of the cities, which are more diverse than rural Ruggerland.

I find the contrast between track sprinting, cycling and swimming intriguing: why is there such a disparity between those three? On the face of it, the physical attributes don't seem that much different.

Yes the women's team has been criticised for being too white.

Why can't that be socioeconomics as well? Last time I checked, track cycling was expensive and.swimming was, um, high parental taxi commitment and expensive.

I think with football there's an element of stereotyping - it works against black managers/coaches but in favour of young players.
Mainly though black boys go through puberty earlier than white so at academy level are on average physically at an advantage

I would postulate a bit of that sort of bias in running as well. All the gingers get sent off to train for the 1500m.
