I've recently renewed the wheel bearing on my thru axle winter bike. I now need to do the same on my summer rim bike. However, I'm a bit confused how to get to the bearings - not even sure they are cartridge bearings. A

ny advice appreciated - no indication of make of hub.

It looks like it's a hex inside where the qr goes through ,likly 2 x 5 mm hex keys ,1 at either side

If there's nowhere for a tool the caps will just pull off

You were absolutely right - thank you. I have screwed one of the caps off (pic1a) to reveal the bearing and the thread that the cap screwed into (pic2a). Looks like there is a shaft through the axle with a threaded end that is connected to the inner bearing - as the thread rotates in pic3 the inner bearing rotates, which, to me, makes mechanical sense. However, I'm not sure how these bearings are extracted.

If you can't tap them out from the other side then you need bearing pullers. Loads of info on Youtube.

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

As above ,looks like there is a small lip there to get a drift on to tap them out
