MTB chainrings change

I want to change the smallest of 3 chainrings on my MTB.

Do I understand correctly that I need to remove the driveside crankarm, but of course not the BB?

The biggest chainring can be removed without touching anything else, but this is not the one I'm interested in.

Thanks,

Depending on type of crankset/bb, you may need to remove the non-driveside crankarm first to then get the drive side crankarm (& spindle) off.

Have you already checked to ensure the chainring is bolted on rather than riveted?
