Doesn't look like anyone looks at the the tours/sportives/training rides page so trying here....

Returning to UK - specifically north London - after more than 10 years of living in Germany.

Roadie and gravel rider.

Would appreciate suggestions for routes or places to ride. Anything from 1 to 4 or 5 hours.

Also, any organised events like Ride London, etc?

Many thanks 🙏

looking into the +1

i'm central, but i regularly use the climbs up to top of hampstead and highgate for hill repeats, the area of highgate around swains lane is generally quiet, also holly lodge estate (it's a private road, ascend it, then exit at the top, too many idiots descending inconsiderately/dangerously have caused problems including security guards turning away cyclists)

these are ok for 1-2 hours, doing a km of vertical ascent by repeats up swains lane is really boring though

early morning is best due to traffic levels, i was out just after 0500 this morning

the regent's park outer circle is good for laps, again best early morning when most road access gates are closed and there's very little traffic

for longer routes you need to head out, best is to search online and see what's best from your area

not my thing but if you're looking for a club, i see a fair number of islington cc around, i've chatted with a few and they seem ok https://islington.cc/weekly-schedule

wherever you ride, on new routes, watch out for potholes etc., some could be lethal at speed, london road quality is far worse than when you left uk, on the plus side i'd say driving standards wrt cyclists have generally improved

my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny

I live in Mill Hill and cycle daily into central London. Sometimes on my way home I’ll do a few laps of Regents Park or go via Hampstead and tackle a few hills.

That’s about my lot these days.

  • You can try the Two Rivers bike path from Ware to Braughing for a gravel ride.
