Welcome to the PTP thread for Gent-Wevelgem or to give it its full title, Gent-Wevelgem in Flanders fields. Step 2 on the route to De Ronde.

253kms of facing that actually starts at the Menin Gate in Ypres with the race now keen to pay tribute to the battlefields of the Great War. The riders will take in several rough Plugstreet sections.

Last year we saw Christophe LAPORTE take the win unchallenged by his team-mate Wout VAN AERT leaving the rest of the field trailing behind.

The provisional startlist can be found here: https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/gent-wevelgem/2024/startlist/startlist

Several former winners of the race are in the field and lots of teams sending interesting line-ups including contenders such as:

Laporte, Benoit, Kooij, MVDP, Philipsen, Pederson, Mohoric and Kung to name a few.

Previous winners:

2023 Laporte

2022 Girmay

2021 WVA

2020 Pedersen

2019 Kristoff

2018 Sagan

2017 GVA

Helpful information about this years parcours can be seen here: https://www.cyclingnews.com/races/gent-wevelgem-2024/map/

Look out for the weather as the race initially heads towards the North Sea. I’ve looked at a few forecasts and generally it sounds like there will be some light rain and a breeze but nothing spectacular- they will more than likely be wrong though.

There are nine climbs in the last 100km including the Scherpenberg, Baneberg, Monteberg, Kemmelberg (Belvedère), Monteberg, Kemmelberg (Belvedère), Scherpenberg, Baneberg. The final climb is the Kemmelberg (Ossuaire) and there will be 34km to go to Wevelgem when the peloton go over the top. Plenty of time for a chase or will the race already be decisively split?

Usual PTP rules will be applied, good luck with your picks.
