Belt driven bikes - what is the belt made from?

I'm considering buying a bike with belt drive. What are the belts made of? If I left the bike securely locked on the street, could some malicious passerby use a knife to cut the belt?

Some kind of synthetic polymer with carbon fibre.

Leaving the bicycle on the street this wouldn't really be high up on my list of worries.

Bicycles with belt drives have a strong carbon fiber belt that has nylon teeth and wraps around the front chain ring and rear cog. Even though this belt is durable, it can still be damaged. If a bike is left unattended on the road, someone could maybe use a knife to slice through the belt. But they would have to really try hard because this belt is very strong. It's advisable to take precautions like parking in secure areas to minimize such risks.
