Things to know with Di2?

FYI, shifting in the new bike is quite nice. I'm still getting to terms with the changed language for shifting larger, but very nice nonetheless. Having 2 extra 2 gears is also nice for smooth cadence changes.0

Wasn't it something to do with the speed they can shift at? I am guessing bigger battery allows them stronger motors to shift quicker but I can't remember ever reading the specific reason, only that it allows faster shifting.ugo.santalucia said:
Yes, that is the cable that goes from the battery to the derailleur(s). I still don't understand why Shimano insists with this battery hidden inside the frame. Surely, if they have developed the bluetooth link from the shifters, then it would be sensible to get rid of this bodge, in the same way SRAM Etap have. Either I am missing a trick (hidden battery can be bigger and last longer? Better insulation from the elements?) or Shimano are...0 -
is Etap slow?joeyhalloran said:

Regarding the internal battery on Shimano, perhaps a SRAM patent, or simply product differentiation?
Campagnolo's new wireless electronic groupset uses a different battery for the front and rear derailleur, I struggle to think why you'd do that if not to avoid a SRAM patent.
I can see pros and cons of both approaches (I'm on Shimano). The SRAM approach definitely increases frame compatibility and reduce install time. With Di2 you realistically need a frame with ports for it. If you have the ports, 12 speed Di2 is easier than internally routed mechanical.0 -
How can you have wireless without separate batteries for front and rear mech's? To have a single battery it would need wires surely. Is the SRAM system only wireless from the shifters then?akh said:Campagnolo's new wireless electronic groupset uses a different battery for the front and rear derailleur, I struggle to think why you'd do that if not to avoid a SRAM patent.
