What ebike?

I am 72 and had open heart surgery to have my aortic valve replaced five months ago. I am getting back on my bike but was thinking of buying an electric mountain bike. I was looking at possibly the Trek Marlin 8 or the Cube Reaction. Has anyone had any experience of those or suggest an alternative about the same price? Many thanks

You must mean the Trek Marlin +8 at £3000 and the Cube Reaction Hybrid at about £2500. Of the two the Trek is the better buy. That £500 buys a lot. Read the reviews.

Both are hardtails. Not a problem with a non-assist bike, but in ebike form, the extra weight becomes a burden. On the emtb forum, many members post that they bought an electric hardtail only to change to a full suss soon afterwards. The link is here, its free to join and is full of friendly people, many of whom are in their 70's, like me.

Take a look at the site, ask your question there.
Many are sure to recommend the Vitus E-Mythique on sale at CRC and Wiggle (down from £3300 to £2300. It is a full suss and is highly recommended. Act quickly before they are all gone.

Here is a video review from the site's founder.

When you have watched his review, page down to post#23 and see another video review by EMBN who take the bike into the wilds of the Isle of Skye.

Have you managed to get a test ride an emtb? If you haven't then prepare to be amazed. It will knock ten years off you. :)
