2024 Election thread

I know Truss was only pm for a very short period of time, but she did win the leadership contest and not Sunak!

Didn't Sunak then win the next one or was he just handed it like a consolation prize?

He passed the (100?), threshold, so vote didn’t go to the members. IIRC.
It was the members that voted Truss previously over the long summer campaign. I guess they didn't want to go through that again.

Johnson reckoned he could have got 100 MPs to support him if he wanted to, but he didn't want to.
0 -
I think that was accepted by a lot of people. His issue was that he knew he would not be supported by the majority of MPs even if the members voted him in.

A Labour candidate has been suspended after being the subject of a gambling commission investigation. 🤦♂️
I can see how the campaign manager and Sunak's close adviser would have definite inside info, but that's a bit weird isn't it? Who's telling him?

Oh man, it's even better. It wasn't the date of the election.
The Labour candidate bet on himself to lose.
0 -
It’s for betting on his own constituency which is actually allowed legally but labour aren’t messing about (not least as he bet to lose)
0 -
Are you allowed to bet that you're going to lose?
To be fair, that savanta poll had him ahead, so despite his efforts he might have lost his stake.

Sounds like the party might be better off without such an idiot.

Maybe it's like betting on your football team to lose so there's a positive result either way.
What odds would he even have got in a seat with a 23,000 tory majority?
0 -
Be funny if he still won.

And returned the £100k he donated to labour.
The guy set up and ran a communications agency.

Betting on yourself to win shouldn't be an issue surely.

That feels like quite the take to me...

The wording of his denial suggests he did something very slightly different from what he is denying

They’re coming after your vote, Pross.
don’t really know how they propose to do that without spending,
0 -
Maybe they are going to have GPs open at 9am instead?
0 -
Make it all online.
0 -
Why don't GP surgeries open twice a day, so you could waste your lunch hour on hold as well?
0 -
The online form system to triage patients works well. If they could shorten the form a bit and then automate notification about the time you are likely to be called, I think it would be fully functional. Doesn't work well for any old technophobes though.

our GP has an online service for some things (like ordering repeat prescriptions), the online service shuts when the surgery does - i cannot get my head around why they would do that.
0 -
Ours likewise. Sunday evening the OH went online to try to book / request a review appointment, but couldn't do so as the surgery wasn't open. Utterly bonkers. Surely the point of the online aspect is to be able to do things at a time that suits the patient, not a time that suits the surgery.

They're already in charge here.
