I've been wondering about replacing my 6800 chainset (for a shorter one). Given I've also the 6800 brifters am I limited to 6800 chainsets or will others work - both other Shimano ones of that vintage and ones from other manufacturers?

TIA

Anything 11 sp made by anyone will be fine, but watch out for bb compatibility. If it was me I'd avoid Shimano entirely.

Cheers FA that's mostly what I was thinking, but not sure what other manufacturers chainsets would work with the brifters.

Btw are you sure about the 11 speed point - I'm pretty sure the subsequent gen Shimano chainsets are not compatible with the 6800 brifters?

I run a praxis with that groupset, and an 11sp di2 with a KCNC chainset. Which also works with Capmpag 10sp. Oh and another bike has those brifters with an FSA chainset.

Cross compatability of chainsets is one of those arse covering things that the big brands tell you, like only use shimano brake pads, or only use a Samsung charger, etc.
