HELP Needed With Choosing Bikes

Hi,

I am hoping someone can help me unexplode my head! 🤯

I am currently looking for bike options for myself (39-year-old male) and my daughter (11-year-old).

After visiting numerous local bike shops, I have narrowed down the options as listed below, I am trying to compare to see which is the best "bang for buck" option.

Most if not all of our riding will be on sealed paths (bike paths, etc) but do not want to limit ourselves in case we decide to become adventurous in the future and go on some light trails or unsealed terrain.

In addition, can ANYONE explain the different hierarchies of components (e.g., Tourney, Acera, Deore, etc.). After a lot of Googling, I haven't found any clear answer.

The price ranges I am considering is approximately $500 - $750 for my daughter and around $1,000 - $1,500 for myself.

*all component information collected from Manufacturer Websites, Bike Shop Websites or 99spokes.com from their compare tool.

Your daughter is like to outgrow whichever bike you buy for her so a good second hand model may be the way to go in order to minimise any loss when you sell it on.
The money you save could then go towards your own bike, which you are likely to keep for longer.

Shimano group sets in order of lowest to highest are:
    Altus
    Acera
    Alivio
Cues (just about to be released)
    Deore
    SLX
    XT
    XTR

Deore is the real value for money group set. It's a bit heavier than SLX but has many of the same features and is very reliable.

    SRAM group sets are:
SX - best avoided as there are many reports of the rear derailleur exploding.
    NX
    NX Eagle
    GX
    GX Eagle
    X1
    X01
    X01 Eagle

There is a good explanation of components and group sets HERE.

Have a read through that then have another look at the bikes you have listed and try to narrow the choices down then try and get a few test rides to see which one you prefer.
