Your wish is my command. How about the timeless love ballad, 'Sweaty Betty'? Won't quote it all as its a bit rude but the lines:
I couldn't believe the size of her bum,
She used to play for Wigan at the back of the scrum

Will stay in my memory forever.

Madness created some relatable songs. "Our house" and "Driving in my car".

Pross will approve as you can clearly hear all the lyrics.

Great song writing makes you feel. It doesn't matter which emotion it brings forth. It only matters that it does.

Sure, I think the music you grow up with always leaves a bigger impression.

Arctic monkeys particularly, especially early on, really capture that period about what it was like at that age.

I was in Sheffield, it was great. I probably wouldn’t enjoy it as much if it came out now.

    (sensible answer)

Now those memories come back to haunt me
They haunt me like a curse
Is a dream a lie if it don't come true
    Or is it something worse

That sends me down to the river
Though I know the river is dry

    (Less sensible answer)

Yeah, I'm hung like planet Pluto, hard to see with the naked eye
But if I crashed into Uranus, I would stick it where the sun don't shine
'Cause I'm kind of like Hans Solo, always stroking my own wookie
I'm the root of all that's evil, yea, but you can call me Cookie
We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

Billy Joel - We Didn't Start The Fire.

Maybe not the greatest but certainly one of the most inventive ways of stringing together the key events and figures of a century. There's always calls for a 'sequal' but it ain't happ'nin'.

And what would you say to your younger self?
    Growing a beard's quite hard
And whiskey never starts to taste nice
And you'll make a lot of money, and it's funny
'Cause you'll move somewhere sunny and get addicted to drugs
And spend obscene amounts on fucking seeds and beans online

Pulp's Common People has some classic lines too. Maybe it applies to some of us when we discuss topics relating to poverty on here!

What a song and lyrics- one of my favourites ever!!

Rent a flat above a shop
Cut your hair and get a job
Smoke some fags and play some pool
Pretend you never went to school
But still you'll never get it right
'Cause when you're laid in bed at night
    Watching roaches climb the wall
If you called your dad he could stop it all, yeah
You'll never live like common people
You'll never do whatever common people do
You'll never fail like common people
You'll never watch your life slide out of view
And you dance and drink and screw
Because there's nothing else to do

Joni Mitchell - Both Sides Now

Beautiful song and lyrics - also love the scene in Love Actually when it’s used!

Rows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
    And feather canyons everywhere
    Looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun
They rain and they snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
    It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all
Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way that you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
I've looked at love that way
But now it's just another show
And you leave 'em laughing when you go
And if you care, don't let them know
    Don't give yourself away
I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take and still somehow
    It's love's illusions that I recall
    I really don't know love
Really don't know love at all
Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say, "I love you" right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I've looked at life that way
Oh, but now old friends they're acting strange
And they shake their heads and they tell me that I've changed
Well something's lost, but something's gained
    In living every day
I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
    It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all
    It's life's illusions that I recall
    I really don't know life
I really don't know life at all

    One, two, three, four
    Do you realize
That you have the most beautiful face?
    Do you realize
    We're floating in space?
    Do you realize
    That happiness makes you cry?
    Do you realize
That everyone you know someday will die?
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes
Let them know you realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

    (Verse 1)
    I'm a visionary, a man with a plan,
Aiming for greatness, like no one else can,
Building rockets to the sky, electric cars so sleek,
But there's haters and doubters, who call me a freak.

    (Pre-Chorus)
They say I'm crazy, they say I'm strange,
But I'm just chasing dreams that they can't rearrange,
I've got big ideas, I've got big goals,
But their negativity, it takes its toll.

    (Chorus)
So you lot can fvck right off,
With your doubts and your scoffs,
I'll keep reaching for the stars,
No matter how high the bars,
I'll show the world what I can do,
And prove that greatness can come from you.

    (Verse 2)
I dream of Mars, a planet to explore,
    Colonizing space, like never before,
    Revolutionizing travel, with Hyperloop speed,
But some say it's impossible, just a crazy greed.

    (Pre-Chorus)
They try to bring me down, they try to dissuade,
But I won't back down, I'll keep pushing ahead,
I'll keep innovating, I'll keep taking risks,
Because I know that greatness, it often comes with tricks.

    (Chorus)
So you lot can fvck right off,
With your doubts and your scoffs,
I'll keep reaching for the stars,
No matter how high the bars,
I'll show the world what I can do,
And prove that greatness can come from you.

    (Bridge)
I'll work day and night, with passion and drive,
Believing in my vision, keeping my dreams alive,
I'll build a better future, for all to see,
And leave a legacy, that will forever be.

    (Chorus)
So you lot can fvck right off,
With your doubts and your scoffs,
I'll keep reaching for the stars,
No matter how high the bars,
I'll show the world what I can do,
And prove that greatness can come from you.

    (Outro)
I'm Elon Musk, I'm on a mission so grand,
I won't let negativity, deter my plan,
I'll keep pushing forward, no matter the cost,
Because I believe in greatness, and that's not lost.

Are teenage dreams so hard to beat?
Everytime she walks down the street
    Another girl in the neighbourhood
Wish she was mine, she looks so good
I wanna hold her wanna hold her tight
Get teenage kicks right through the night
I'm gonna call her on the telephone
Have her over 'cause I'm all alone
I need excitement oh I need it bad
And it's the best, I've ever had

As the microphone squeaks another telephone beeps / oh she’s dashing for the exit, she’s running for the streets outside / “oh you saved me” she screams down the line / the band are f@cking w@nk and I’m not having a nice time

Well his bird thinks he’s amazing so that’s all that’s left / is the proof that love’s not only blind but deaf

    Yeah definitely up there.

Time flies by when you're the driver of a train, speeding out of Trumpton with a cargo of cocaine,

I get high when i'm the pilot of a plane, touching down in Camberwick, stoned out of my brain.

Good calls on those top 2 (don’t really know much Arctic Monkeys). Down In The Tube Station always feels under-rated, if you hear The Jam on the radio or in a film soundtrack it is usually Town Called Malice or maybe That’s Entertainment (which is also excellent).

The Kinks certainly matured from the early stuff like You Really Got Me, All Day And All Of The Night and Tired Of Waiting through to Sunny Afternoon, Waterloo Sunset and Lola.

On the subject of The Jam….

Sup up your beer and collect your fags
There's a row going on down near slough
Get out your mat and pray to the west
I'll get out mine and pray for myself
Thought you were smart when you took them on
But you didn't take a peep in their artillery room
All that rugby puts hairs on your chest
What chance have you got against a tie and a crest?
Hello-hooray, what a nice day, for the Eton rifles, Eton rifles

You can quote any of Wellers Jam stuff, the earlier material anyway. All mod cons and Setting Sons were sublime, and he was only very young at the time.
