Much as I like the free points I picked Jakobsen rather than Philipsen. Nil points for me - at least The Big Bean didn't score any either0

I think it's mainly down to shifting the focus entirely towards Remco despite Lefevere's protestations. When operating a tight budget you can pretty much only be 1 thing of the 3 possible at elite level (GC, classics or sprinting). There are exceptions, but those tend to have a massive, utterly outsized budget.twotoebenny said:

QS no longer have a genuine classics leader. Alaphilippe is not in form (due to his many crashes) and maybe already past his prime. They don't really have a tier 1 classics rider besides Alaphilippe.
In order to pay for Remco and his GC train, you have to sacrifice elsewhere.
When Sky dominated GT's with Froome, their classics were not great considering the overall budget they were able to field. When QS dominated the classics, they were nowhere in GT's (with the one exception being Alaphilippe at the Tour 2019 if I remember correctly).
Sky were also one of the first teams in recent years to recognize you have no space for a sprinter and his train when going for GC in GT's. So that type of rider has gotten more and more marginalized in recent years and moved either towards second and third tier teams or teams without serious GC aspirations.
QS is no longer a classics team. They are a GT GC team with a sprinting side hustle. Alpecin is a classics team with sprinting. Only Jumbo are everything with the budget to match.PTP Champion 2019, 2022 & 20230 -
