Devon

What's it like for riding? Considering relocation to there (possibly Exeter, Exmouth)

It's just a hill. Get over it.

    Lumpy.
    Accumulated climbing will surprise you.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

  • I live in Devon and am lucky enough to work in Plymouth and Exeter. I must admit that Exeter has by far the best variety. If you want flat then there are excellent bike paths each side of the estuary and if you want hills with quiet roads then just head away from the water on either side.
Dartmoor is near for a challenge and I ride all year round with the weather only spoiling the fun very rarely. That's assuming you don't mind rain! It shows properly once every 3 or 4 years.

I have family who live in Bovey Tracey. Every time I ride there, it surprises me how slow I am, because of the hills! It is stunning, but the lanes are narrow and often holey and gravelly, so you need to take a little extra care if you aren't used to it.
