Sapim CX-Sprint or CX-Ray

I currently have a set of Reynolds AR41 wheels. Broken a couple of spokes over the past 5,000 miles and had them replaced each time. Now decided to have them all replaced. The wheels came built from factory with Sapim CX-Sprint. I have had two quotes from reputable local shops, one suggestion, I continue with the CX-Sprint the other suggesting I go with CX-Ray.

Can anyone explain the difference and which one I should go for please.
I am about 90Kg, like to sprint, and power up shorter hills out of the saddle.
Don't care about the weight. (loosing some of my own would be more sensible)
I want something that is strong, durable and will limit flex in the rear wheel.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
D

I doubt that either spoke will make a noticeable difference to your riding, or the reliability of the wheel. Far more important will be how well it is built and finished by whoever is building it.

In any case, the answers are all on the Sapim website.

  • The CX Sprint are aimed at carrying a bigger load, which in your case means more body weight, it could also mean more power output, hence the name Sprint.

I would stick to those ones. The LBS probably suggested CXRay because they are more commonly available and maybe they already have them in stock

Thanks Ugo. Had this back from one:
"Sapim cx sprint are slightly stiffer and heavier but unavailable from Sapim distributors. When built up properly you’re unlikely to notice much if any difference. The price difference isn’t much. I have to get them cut and threaded to the size so bit more expensive than just a straight spoke."

They are available from retailers as individual spokes, for instance Ryanspokes stock them. I suspect that’s what they would end up doing. If you are just replacing a couple of spokes, you can go for CX ray, one out 24 is unlikely to make any difference, but for a full rebuild, I would go for the stiffer CX Sprint

I guess it may be the sizes. Thanks for input.
