Italian rider and 1965 Giro and 1968 Worlds winner Vittorio Adorni, died today. He was 85. He won 40 races in his career, including the GC of both major Swiss races and multiple stages of them and the Giro.

He was probably more famous for being Merckx's confidant, who taught him how to ride Grand Tours, and was at his side for his first GT win in 1968.

After his career, he remained involved in the sport and was part of the UCI's management committee for some time.
