Need help on value of bike...

I need to sell a bike (this is not a classified ad, as I'm not selling just yet), but i have absolutely no idea how much to value the bike for... some suggestions would be amazing.

It's an immaculate 2012 56cm Specialized S-Works Roubaix SL3, with Dura Ace Di2 (compact). It was my Dad's, and has barely been ridden. Can either sell with the stock DT Swiss Tricon wheels, or with Zipp 202 Firecrest (Rim brake).

It looks exactly like this, except with Dura Ace cranks and the Di2 (as mentioned above) -

As shown in the image above, I believe it was about £6k. Add on Di2, and the stock new price would have been £6.5k I'm guessing.

I've seen a huge variance in prices from £1k to £3.5k over the past few weeks, but it's tricky to know where to aim it.

Cheers

if genuinly immaculate, look at half of what it cost new and take offers from there.

Whether it’s 10 or 11 speed might make difference in what you get for it.

presumably 10+ years old, i'm guessing 10-speed, and it's not trendy because it's rim brake

if it's all in near-new condition, and you are willing/able to sell over time, you might do better selling as three lots: frame+fork+bars+post+saddle, groupset (could even split that too), and wheels

the frame could be rebuilt with a recent groupset

the old groupset parts may be attractive to someone needing spares/replacements

  • Against the rules of this forum, I am afraid…

  • Thanks for the advice all. Might look at the option of breaking it down and selling in various lots... sounds like a good idea.

@ugo.santalucia - i don't get why it's against any rules... i'm not trying to sell it here, or even drum up interest. Just looking for advice - I've never actually sold any of my bikes (I just end up recycling parts onto new frames etc etc) seems a shame to sell the thing at all. If it offends you so much just don't read it or waste your own time replying?

Just stick it on eBay or Gumtree and test the market.

Haha! Starting to think it's more hassle than it's worth to sell it!

Didn't think you were trying to sell it at this point?

Doesn't matter if you don't get it. It's still against the rules.

Seems a pity that people genuinely can’t get some ideas re what a bike might be worth? OP was only asking for some advice as a starting point.
It can be really hard knowing what an older decent bike might be worth. MF’s advice re halving is advice I’ll take away should I sell anything in the future!

The rule was put in place because the threads asking for valuations were so prevalent and always received the same answer - Nobody really knows, have a look at past listings in the for sale section/Ebay and base it off that. They were also often used as a way of bypassing the for sale section entirely.

Bike value is massively dependant on the market.
18 months ago it might be worth a lot, now it won’t be. The bottom has dropped out of the market.

Yes do understand that fully. Just seems a shame that there couldn’t be a specific thread whereby if someone had a bike that was unusual/ older/ of a specific vintage etc that they couldn’t get some advice… but totally understand that we don’t want it overrunning the Forum either! And I can see that relaxing the rule would open it up to misuse!

Agreed - it’s been good to see new bikes having prices reduced. Just taken a look at Hargroves Cycles website and they have a fair few reductions- not massive, but an indication of prices lowering slightly. ( Not that I’m in the market for a new bike!)
  • Pop it on ebay no reserve. Then you will know what it is worth.
