retap adjuster barrel thread?

Hello,
I've attached a photo of the cable adjuster on my Shimano 105, 5700 ten speed derailer. As you can see I have had to improvise with a locknut as the internal thread of the barrel is damaged. The adjuster bolt measures 4mm so I was wondering wether anyone has solved this problem by retapping the internal thread to 5mm and fitting a M5 adjuster.

    A helicoil would be easier than trying to find an M5 cable adjuster I would think.

    Downtube barrel adjusters look like they are M5. Got to be worth a try surely? Assuming there's enough alloy around the hole to take the retapping...

    20 quid for a second hand one on ebay not sure it's worth the effort.

    Some people ( like me ) get great satisfaction from being able to do things like this. It is nothing to do with saving money or effort.

    Me too. Lot of satisfaction to be had by fixing something which would otherwise be heading for the recycling bin or worse to landfill.
