How many pairs of cycling shoes do you have?

As per topic: once you start riding your bike close to daily, for the commute plus weekend leisure rides, maybe having a single pair isn't the best idea. So how many pairs of cycling shoes do you have?

4 but not a fashionista - 2 for riding (one pair white , one pair dark grey, just choose whatever doesn't matter on type of ride or weather - they are just shoes), 1 pair for turbo (utter bargain at £9.99 from Planet X), 1 just sitting there that I won't get rid of but really can't see myself using.

Tbh I had one pair for everything for years and its no dramas at all.

4 but also not a fashionista. Road, MTB clips, MTB flats, winter boots.

Road, road trainer, road winter, SPD summer, SPD winter.

Just remembered the road winter boots that means I've got another set of cleats to replace having changed pedal systems. However, based on last winter, it was either SPD winter boots or indoor training, so maybe not.

Why ones for the turbo? Why not just wear your normal riding ones?

I have 4. 2 road, 2 off-road. It's not a fashion thing, it's a slow transition and ensure I always have shoes and cleats that fit me when one set dies. They were all bought 2nd hand.

2 pairs one summer, one winter. However I tend to just wear the summer pair all year round. Unless they get wet then I will wear the other pair.

One pair on common fit pedals. Don't need any more.
    Spare Boas though.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

  • Normal white ones and winter boots for the commute when it's cold or wet. They've been out once this year already.

because I run Look pedals on the road bikes and Shimano on the turbo because I got the pedals and cleats for nothing and the shoes were cheaper than buying new pedals.

Three. One nice pair for summer, one pair I’ve blocked the vents on for winter, and some mtb ones for the odd occasion I stick spd pedals on the bike.

Of course, they’ve just been sitting around for months due to my inability to get myarse in gear to actually ride my bike…

    Three.
1 pair of Specialised Tahoe, now 12 years old and used for commuting.
1 pair of Shimano I used for MTBing but which were just a fraction of a tight fit, kept as spares.

With very wide feet I am limited in choice as to which brands make shoes that actually fit.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Just one. This reminds me I was going to get some winter boots for my commute. What's recommended for SPD boots? Want something that works.

    Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

Really old (2006) pair of Shimano shoes used on dry commutes or light rain outside of winter, with a replacement pair of DHB Dorika MTBs waiting in the spares box, which I expected to use this summer but the Shimanos have just about survived another year.

Pair of PX Das Boots for winter and torrential spring-summer forecast commutes.

Pair of DHB Dorika Carbons for the road bike, three year old now, great besides the heel mini platforms are quite badly worn.

    4. One 20 year old paur down south so I can fly with hand luggage only. Mtb pair, two road pairs for here.

One set have always pinched so soon to be three road pairs, one relegated to turbo duty, one every day, one for assaults on major climbs in the height of summer.
  • 2 - One winter / communting, one summer / good weather.

If you mean road shoes with SPD-SL, I've got a pair of Northwave Flash GTX, which I think is now the Celsius GTX. Pretty happy with them, down to about zero degrees, and particularly good in the cold and wet.

Compared to some my 2 pairs seems miserly. However I do have 5 pairs of rock climbing shoes and will be getting a sixth pair in the near future.

Two SPD-SL. White, carbon soled DHB jobbies for summer, and black basic Spesh pair for winter. (Actually the white ones are now pretty grey; I should really give them a clean and mothball them now autumn's upon us).

Thinking about getting some basic MTB shoes for commuting / shopping / touring where being able to walk off the bike suddenly becomes more important; anybody have any experience of the Carnac ones PX are selling suspiciously cheap?

8 pairs. Covering commuting, summer, winter variants of SPD and SPD-SL, touring, flat plus an extra one for mid foot cleats.

Do they have to fit to count?

Asking because i've got 6 pairs of shoes, but only use 1 because the others don't actually fit.

I used to buy a pair to see if they'd fit, forget to try them on, then be unable to return them as the return period had expired.

Really ought to sell them ; probably over £250 when new in shoes sat in a cupboard!
Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.
    Bike 1 (Broken) - Bike 2(Borked) - Bike 3(broken spokes) - Bike 4( Needs Work) - Bike 5 (in bits) - Bike 6* ...

I'm up to six, having recently bought a pair of Fizik Aria R3s. I went to replace my trainer shoes and found a bargain that fit nicely although they hammered the original budget. Another bargain pair of R5s didn't fit as well and had to be returned, otherwise I'd be up to seven!

Oh dear. 1 Look Keo (for the velodrome); 3 SPDs (commuting, white, gym); 4 Speedplay (commuting, white, turbo, spare). That seems like ... a lot?

    Three
One for summer (for both: commuting, and sport/leisure)
One for winter (again for both: commuting, and sport/leisure)
One (summer) at my Mum's place in Riva del Garda, for when I visit.

In the options given it seems weekend = sunny, and commute = winter.
    Why???? :o
After all not every weekend is sunny. Neither we commute only in winter.

You may look at it as the nice shoes vs the workhorse shoes. For example, I wouldn't commute through the deep winter with uncovered white or fancy knit shoes.

One pair of shoes for nice weather days.
Same shoes and overshoes on bad weather days. Simple.
