    I bought a proper (static) steam engine from Harrods in the mid eighties.
    I bet elf n safety wouldn't permit the sale of life threatening 20cc boilers anymore.

    a mamod? i had one in the 60s, with the meths burner, quite terrifying once it wound itself up, though the water always ran out before the safety valve blew
    my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny

    Yes! Although solid fuel was supplied. learnt to fill the boiler with hot water first.
    Ran a Meccano motor off it to produce electricity and powered a light bulb. Wasn't very bright.
