Shimano br-rs505 calliper replacement options?

Hello good folk in the Workshop!
I'm fed up of replacing my BR-RS505 callipers (paired with the ugly 105 RS505 shifters) only for the new ones to leak after a while too. I've read a few places that imply that any shimano hydraulic callipers are interchangeable (even MTB) but I don't think their compatibility charts agree with this.

Anyway, what would you replace the callipers with? Ideally cheap, but reliability is probably more important.

  • For flat mount that are compatible with your shifters/mineral oil, I can only think of an 'upgrade' Shimano flat mount ones like the next-generation 105 caliper, or Hope do one I believe. There may well be others

I must admit I never liked those 505 shifters either.

Following as I have the same issue. Not bothered by the shifters TBH, but the sticking caliper pistons annoy they hell out of me!

I fitted deore post mount to my TCX as the hose goes direct on the back rather than a banjo type fitting on SLX and above. Personally haven't had any issues with my 505s on my Defy in nearly 6yrs regular riding.
Too many bikes according to Mrs O.
