Modern Freewheel on French thread hub

As you can't get new French thread freewheels and the NOS has poor ratios what do people think about misthreading a modern freewheel onto a French threaded hub?

Sheldon Brown says it will not work but a lot of people say there is no issue.

    Can you swap the core to put the threaded inner (with the right thread) onto the newer freewheel. Might depend on the pawl arrangements but could solve the issue.

    I doubt it is compatible with anything tbh.

    One of the problems with second hand bikes in France is that anything pre-1985 risks to have French threads everywhere.
