You could have a go with a big adjustable spanner but the jaws would be much too wide to get a secure grip. Much easier (and safer) to use a proper bottom bracket fixed cup spanner like this:

FYI, when you get a massive url like that you can usually delete everything after the html and it will still work.

My original link was to BB spanner/pedal spanner. You can also get them with a peg spanner on other side for the BB adjustable cup. Have chopped back the link as suggested!
